2024 #HRDerby format and a key takeaway 👀

New format - 1st round: ⚾️

1st round is all 8 hitters have three minutes or 40 total pitches - whichever comes first - to hit as many home runs as possible. Each will be granted one 45-second timeout that must be used before their allotted time is up, but they can get bonus time, which is obtained for 2 home runs longer than 440 feet. Top 4 in terms of home runs in the 1st round move to the semi-finals.

Semi-finals: Top 4 from round one

The format will shift to No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3, but those seeds will solely be determined by the number of homers each player hit in the first round. Semi-finals get three minutes or 40 pitches whichever comes first.

Finals: 🏆

The finals comes down to the top two hitters. They will get two minutes or 27 pitches — whichever comes first — before awarded bonus time.

Bonus time - hitting 2 home runs over 440 feet triggers bonus time at the end of the allotted time. This year in bonus time a player gets 3 outs (non-HRs). If a player hits a HR 425 feet or more during their 3-outs of bonus time, they are granted an extra out. Since you receive bonus time for home runs over 440 feet and an extra out for 425 feet during bonus time, I think it’s crucial to consider players who’ve hit the longest home runs this season.
